On a December cruise with the newly refurbished Silver Whisper, Shipsahoy got a first-hand look at what was happening in the Caribbean in some of the Caribbean ports.

Guests embarked in Barbados, which wasn’t affected by Irma or Maria (in fact, the island hasn’t been hit by a hurricane since 1955). From there, the Silver Whisper cruised to Grenada, another island that wasn’t directly impacted, and northward toward Fort Lauderdale.

Here’s a port report along the way:

1. St Vincent & the Grenadines

While neighbouring Dominica was battered by Maria, which destroyed nearly the entire island, St Vincent was south of the line of impact and managed to escape the winds and surges that wreaked havoc further north. It’s business as usual here, and Silversea is running regular excursions on and around Bequia (accessible by tender boat), including an excursion to the exclusive invite-only island of Mustique.
